Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to the questions we hear most often from families considering TLC.

  • Is TLC really free? +

Yes, absolutely. The Learner Center is a public charter school, which means there is zero tuition and zero hidden costs. Education shouldn't depend on family wealth or zip code. Every family, regardless of income, has access to TLC at no cost.

  • My child has an IEP. Do you support that? +

Yes. We have full special education support and we personalize learning for every student. Your child's IEP is not a barrier—it's part of their unique learning path. We also welcome students with ELL needs and students with diverse learning profiles.

  • What does "real-world learning" actually mean? +

It means students work in actual organizations, not classrooms. High school scholars complete internships with real mentors in real workplaces. They're solving actual community problems, not practicing for the future. They're already in it. Middle schoolers engage in project-based learning tied to authentic challenges.

  • How is the advisor model different from a counselor? +

A counselor typically meets with a student once a year. An advisor meets with your child regularly—they know their strengths, their challenges, and what moves them. They walk with your scholar the entire time they're at TLC. It's a real relationship built on trust.

  • What if my student doesn't get selected in the lottery? +

You'll be placed on our waitlist. We're starting with one grade level and expanding year by year. Many families who don't get in the first year do in following years. We keep you updated and keep that spot warm.

  • Do you offer transportation? +

We're located in the Gwinnett area of Atlanta. Transportation is the family's responsibility. We're actively exploring partnerships with local transit systems to make access easier. We welcome families from across the metro Atlanta area.

  • What grades are you opening with? +

We're opening with Grades 6–12 in August 2028. We're accepting applications for all grades right now. Our founding cohort will be about 100 scholars across middle and high school.

  • What happens after graduation? +

We don't hand over a diploma and say goodbye. Graduates stay connected to TLC through our alumni network. We provide continued support into college and career. Dr. Dolly and the team are invested in your scholar's success long after they leave.
