Our Approach

How Students Learn at TLC

Students learn best when the work is real, when an adult knows them well, and when they are healthy enough to show up fully.

The Seven-Year Journey

Learning deepens each year. Real work grows. Stakes rise.

What Makes It Work

Four distinct practices that hold the TLC model together.

Practice 01

Multi-Year Advisory

Every student stays with the same advisor and small advisory group across years. No student is anonymous. Your Living & Learning Plan deepens over time.

This Means

  • Same trusted adult from grade 6–12
  • Continuous relationship, not annual reset
  • Deep knowledge of who you are

Practice 02

Extended Block Schedule

Longer class periods make deep project work, field investigations, and full internship days possible. Time for real work.

This Means

  • Multi-week projects with real depth
  • Dedicated internship days in high school
  • Fieldwork and investigations included

Practice 03

Health as Infrastructure

Movement, nutrition, sleep, stress management, social connection—built into daily rhythm, spaces, and staffing. Not a separate class.

This Means

  • Six pillars of lifestyle medicine daily
  • Integrated into all school activities
  • Health-conscious culture, not curriculum add-on

Practice 04

Public Demonstrations

Presentations and exhibitions are the default proof of mastery. Students present before peers, advisors, families, and mentors.

This Means

  • Learning proven through presentations, not just tests
  • Authentic audiences hold you accountable
  • Senior valedictorian address capstone
